Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team reach locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners tables.
